Book meme
I really should get onto this book meme, brought to me by Nika. Here it comes:
How many books do you read a year?I don't know. 10? Until very recently, I only read in the metro and on the bus. Now that I work downtown, there's no time to sit and read in the metro anymore. And I'll be riding my bike to work soon enough, as well. (Random thought: if you could make some kind of lesbian-friendly bike, would you call it a "byke"? I'd launch a website called bykesfordykes.com. Maybe I'll just go ahead and register the domain name anyway.
What is the last book you bought? The last two that I bought were Why men Don't Listen and why Women Can't Read Maps by Barbara and Allan Pease, and The Man Who Mistook his Wife For A Hat, by Oliver Sacks.
What is the last book you read? The Field, by Lynne MacTaggart, currently on loan to Pookie, formerly known as Daywalker.
List 5 books that mean a lot to you or that you particularly enjoyed.- Calculus: Early Transcendentals, Second Edition, John Stewart It was my first university math book, and, as math books go, really well written.
- The Shadow Rising, Robert Jordan. A very touching scene in Emond's Field with Perrin near the end, plus the Rhuidean experience make this one of my favourites in the series. I just wish the damn thing would fucking end.
- A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin. Believably graphic storytelling, very evil and selfish people and living characters. Recommended.
- The War Against Boys : How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men, Christina Hoff Summers. I have found feminism, in the past few years, to be contradictory and overly self-serving. This book exposes some of this.
- I truly can't think of a fifth one.
Since Montreal has pretty much been done, I'll say V, Mikey and christophe.
