Why do we do it?

From Vanessa, why do we blog? I suggest you take the survey, just to see. Among the more interesting questions:

Has blogging changed your relationships with friends and family? If so, how?

Most of the members of my family don't know what blogs are. And the ones that do don't care. They wouldn't ask if I had a blog, and I wouldn't tell them anyway. So that hasn't changed. The only friendship that could have changed is my relationship with zura, and I can't see how that has actually changed at all, except that we now have a different way to share things such as this. (Niaiseux. What a great word.) Of course, you would have to ask her how she feels. Not even my relationship with Rose has actually changed, as I was blogging when I met her, and am blogging now. Nothing that has happened in our relationship has been affected one way or another because of blogging as far as I can see. But I haven't asked her yet. If I'm wrong, I'll let you know.

As far as new relationships go, that's an entirely different thing. Most of the people I have met in the last five years have been through blogging and blogging events such as Yulblog, or the Splinter Cell Faction (you know who you are). And without this, I might have to hang out with a bunch of drunks downtown (no offense, Krystal) all the time, instead of a small part of the time. Or people from work, which can sometimes be a very bad idea.

Is blogging an emotional activity for you? If so, how?

Blogging is no more or no less an emotional activity for me than conversation is, therefore I would say that it depends on why I wrote that entry. There are definite times where yes, it certainly is emotional. But come on, it certainly isn't all the time. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and all that.

Although I don't do it as often as I might like, this space and that other one are where I do express feelings about various topics that I consider important enough to put words to. I think that qualifies as emotional.

But not emo. Fuck that.
