Eating! : Day 7 and 8
You see a changed man, who not only has a new, now working stomach but a new face, devoid of the tubing that gave him the look of an elephant. As of today, he also had his precious epidural line removed. He can still get shots of morphine, mind you and he will but, the line that was threatening to get infected had to go. That means his level of pain has changed and Jonas has to adapt to feeling what was previously numbed, especially on his side where he had a thoracotomy (opening of the rib cage) that is stapled all the way from the front to the back.
But, but, but! The most important is that our patient is now EATING! Yes, eating, that long forgotten habit has been revived today September 4th at around 1:00 pm. A juice and a Kozy Shack JELL-O took 3 hours to swallow. It should be noted that Jonas ' last meal was Saturday the 25 th of August, nine and a half days before this meagre snack.
Now, Jonas had to kiss goodbye his Bolus (epidural medication) and the rest of the tubes as these last ones might very well be removed tomorrow.
Jonas will be receiving a group of Yulbloggers tomorrow night at 7:30 pm. If you go, just make sure you rub your hands with the antibacterial soap that you can find at the main entrance, at the nurse station on the floor or in the room. If you have symptoms of a flu or a cold, it is recommended that you wear a mask, available at the entrance or at the nurse desk.
This is the ' family room ' where friends can meet.
Also, people have emailed me making different offers to feed Jonas. I suppose it is better if you ask him directly. You can still bring your food and present it to him then see if he picks it up. He does like Kozy Shack, though, and will probably eat plenty of it for a loooong time. About pop, I really do not know if carbonated water drinks are advisable with a new stomach. Frankly, you would not want his brand new stomach to explode in the middle of a Yulblog meeting, would you?
Nay... I don't think so...
